"Believe in Yourself as a Runner" with Sarah Bowen Shea
Thursday, May 3
6:30-8:00 p.m.
Too often, women minimize what they do--"I only work part-time," or "I just have two kids." It carries over into our running lives, "I'm just running the half marathon," or "I'm not really a runner--I only run three times a week on the treadmill at the gym." It's time for us ladies to step up and own what we do.
A veteran of seven marathons, with an upcoming entry in the venerable Boston Marathon, Sarah will talk about the struggle with self-doubt, uncertainty, and defining yourself as "a runner." She will share anecdotes--both personal and from countless other mother runners she's met online and at race expos--and tips for how to believe in yourself as a strong, capable runner.
Sarah Bowen Shea is the co-author of Run Like a Mother and the newly published sequel, Train Like a Mother. She and her co-author, Dimity McDowell, nurture an online community dubbed the Another Mother Runner tribe at anothermotherrunner.com. The two moms emphasize that if you move your body forward by lifting your feet off the ground in rhythmic fashion, you are a runner. (It's their goal to banish the word "jogging" from the English language!)
Sarah will sell and sign copies of both books after the reading.
