Each quarter, the Library offers 6 to 8 week seminars on a variety of literary topics, with each spring being reserved for the study of Shakespeare's plays being performed at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival that summer.

These affordable classes are always insightful but casual, and are taught by seasoned and knowledgeable teachers.

Potpourri: Some Famous Poems
J. Ehrstine

This class is being offered on request for a discussion of poetry.  Thus, some notable lyrics - of a wide variety and vintage, some of which (many?) you will have seen before - will be surveyed to determine if they merit their fame. And why. The discussions will shun most technical concerns, the better to examine wider issues of appeal: powerful emotion, occasion, language, imagery, audience, and more.Poetry

Fall 2010 Schedule of Classes:

Pride and Prejudice and ProgenyJane Austen
J. Ehrstine

The three P’s of contemporary suburban scholarship.  Jane Austen’s work has not only survived but flourished in a number of stories engendered by her characters. We’ll study this delightful phenomena by re-reading Pride and Prejudice as a backdrop to the “Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman” trilogy by Pamela Aidan, and perhaps one more.
